The Dome – Update16 January 2019
As you know in July 2018 we submitted a planning application for an air dome to cover courts 1 & 2 each year from the beginning of October to the end of March. This was done via our agents, Frank Whittle Partnership, who successfully obtained planning consent for the 2 extra courts adjacent to the railway line.
We did not anticipate too many problems.
However because the Club is sited in a Conservation Area the Planners are unhappy about the visual impact the dome will have for 6 months of the year and initially indicated that they would not be able to support the application.
Following a number of meetings and conversations we have now submitted a draft application in a different format and we await a response.
Unfortunately the courts at present are not wide enough to enable a concrete beam to be built, on which the dome is anchored, and so some further work will have to be carried out in addition to the necessary ground works.
It is likely that the total cost of the project will be in excess of £100k and if we do get planning consent then in order to get the work done this Autumn we will need to apply for grants and a loan totalling c£35k.
We are not confident that any grants will be forthcoming and so in order to minimise the amount we borrow it is important that we raise as much money as possible over the next 6 months if we are to make this a reality.
We will keep you updated.
